这首赞美诗的第一节呼应了诗篇103：20-22：听从他命令、成全他旨意、有大能的天使，都要称颂耶和华！你们作他的诸军，作他的仆役，行他所喜悦的，都要称颂耶和华！你们一切被他造的，在他所治理的各处，都要称颂耶和华。我的心哪，你要称颂耶和华！这首赞美诗是以一首古老的赞美诗“感恩赞美歌（Te Deum laudamus，英文We praise thee, O God）”为基础而写的，东正教和天主教都会使用“感恩赞美歌”。唱这首赞美诗是为了让天上地上的，过去现在的，所有天使和基督徒在一起敬拜创造他们的神。
赖利在1906年写了这首英文赞美诗，并用LASST UNS ERFREUEN作为曲调。歌词来自于东正教的两篇古代赞美诗：“感恩赞美歌（Te Deum laudamus英文We praise thee, O God）”和一首合唱诗篇“赞美玛丽（Theotokion）”。赖利对东正教的兴趣反应在歌词上，特别是前两段，对天使和玛丽发出9次呼召，来赞美神。而这首赞美诗的第1段和第3，4段歌词是来自于“感恩赞美歌”。
这首赞美诗适合用在合唱。如果没有管风琴伴奏，可以用铜管乐器来加强整个旋律。
