Introducing Live & Local an exciting new series of recording from the guys at Vineyard Records UK. Follow them as they hit the road with a van full of gear, and with the aim of documenting the worship that’s happening in local Vineyard Churches around the UK. Here we have 5 songs recorded live on Saturday 16th June 2012, as part of an evening of worship. This is a raw, honest and heartfelt glimpse of the worship at Hull Vineyard.

Jimmy Cooke explains some of the vision behind the project; “The vibe of Live & Local is very much grassroots worship, local musicians. We took simple songs and made the arrangements as uncomplicated as possible, and kept a very acoustic feel making room for people in the room to really hear themselves sing. What you hear on Live & Local is the original tracks recorded on the night, no additional instruments or vocals or fake applause mixed in!”

So this first song is called ‘Form Us’ and was written by Casey Corum (Vineyard Music USA) and Anabeth Morgan (Mile High Vineyard, Denver) and led by Tommy Reay from Hull Vineyard. ‘Form Us’ for me feels like a real Vineyard anthem and I especially love the “mercy triumphs over judgement” refrain at the end. Check it out and feel free to use this great song in worship at your church.

Another highlight of the recording is “Sin Has No Hold” written by local Hull Vineyard worship leader Tommy Reay.

“Having talked about the idea of Live and Local with the lads at VRUK it became clear that using a ‘home grown’ song written within Hull Vineyard and effectively for Hull Vineyard really resonated with the idea and ethos of what Live and Local stood for. At the time, I was in the midst of recovering from a fairly painful knee operation, pretty much sofa ridden and living on a diet of hard hitting American cop drama ‘The Wire’ and homemade soup. I decided that during this time I would spend some time focusing on song writing and set about tackling some themes that I felt we as a church needed to sing. As I thought about this, it struck me that we often sing about the cross of Christ but rarely about his resurrection and it was this idea that sent my mind into action. I guess ‘Sin Has No Hold’ came out of this and the clear vision I had in mind helped facilitate the song writing process. It sounded great on the night and love the stripped back feel the song has on this recording.”
